What do kids and art enthusiasts have in common? An article in The Guardian featured a recent study about children's attachments to certain objects and toys.

The study showed that children are emotionally attached to blankets and other objects because intuitively they believe the object possesses a unique essence or life force.

The children in the study were told a "copying machine" would make an identical copy of their comfort object. The article reports that of the 22 children who did have attachment objects, four refused to allow them to be copied at all. Of the remaining children, only five chose the "duplicate" over the original.

The study compared the kids' preferences to that of art enthusiasts - both groups prefer the original to an identical copy. For many parents, this study confirms what they already knew. The full article can be found here.
