D-BROS is a product design project by DRAFT, a graphic design firm based in Tokyo.  From stationery to dishware to jewelry, their products are characterized by a spirit of playfulness.  A recurring theme of theirs is the crossover between 2D and 3D.  My favorite example is the “Hope Forever Blossoming” series...

“Hope Forever Blossoming” are basically flat vinyl pouches that fold out to form vases (see: diagram).  They have apparently attracted quite a bit of attention even outside of Japan, and can be found in just about any shop dealing in stylish household goods of the sort and even in art museum shops here.  Not only is the idea of a fold-up vase innovative and amusing, it’s also quite practical: They don’t take up space when you’re not using them, and you won’t have to worry about breaking them when you’re moving.  They’re also surprisingly stable once you’ve filled them up with water.

What I believe is the full line-up of these vases is available from de de ce + (here).  They also carry other products by D-BROS (here).
